With the price of vehicles escalating, many drivers want to keep their current vehicles for as long as possible while avoiding expensive car repairs. The best way to do this is by making sure you not only understand the vehicle maintenance schedule listed in your owner’s manual but that you actually follow its recommendations.

In addition to the basic maintenance items, there are a few things that you, as a vehicle owner, can do to ensure that your vehicle remains well-maintained:

Daily...

Take a walk around your car to make sure everything looks okay before driving off for the day.  Look for dents or dings in the bodywork and paint, condition of the tires, cracks or chips in the windows, and for puddles under the car.  A few minutes of your time could prevent an accident down the road!

Weekly...

    • Check air pressure, tread depth, and general condition of all four tires AND the spare.
    • Check fluid levels for the oil, coolant/antifreeze, brakes, windshield washer, power steering.
    • Make sure headlights, brake lights, and blinkers are working properly.
    • Inspect your windshield wiper blades and consider replacing them if more than six months old.
    • Inspect the bodywork for any serious damage that may cause a driving hazard.
    • Check mirrors and windows for cracks or chips.
    • Wash your vehicle, inside and out!  Keep it waxed to help protect the finish and repel water and dirt.

Remember: The time and effort you spend in performing these inspections will save you money with fewer car repair issues and give you peace of mind knowing you have a reliable vehicle.
