Many vehicle owners have learned the importance of fuel economy and have downsized into smaller and more fuel-efficient cars as the price of fuel keeps sliding up and down. And it seems like they would rather trade in their older car for a new one rather than take their old one to an auto for regular maintenance items and repairs.

However, as the price of new vehicles keeps going up, it is even more important that vehicle owners understand that visiting their auto center for regularly scheduled maintenance items is a smart choice, diminishing the chances of more costly auto repairs.

Several years ago, Kelton Research published a study that is still true. The study shows that nine-in-ten American vehicle owners think they do everything they should to properly maintain their vehicle. However, the study went on to show that only 41 percent actually follow the manufacturer’s service recommendations. The study further reports that less than one in four (23 percent) of vehicle owners work with a qualified mechanic to develop a maintenance plan for their cars.

Visiting an auto shop for needed regular scheduled maintenance isn’t the way most people want to spend their day. However, it is much less expensive to maintain your vehicle than to purchase a new one--especially if it necessary to finance the purchase price.

Here are four reasons why you should visit your auto shop on a regular basis:

  1. Maintains Safety - Unnecessary auto accidents occur every year as a consequence of owners neglecting preventative vehicle maintenance.
  2. Increased Performance and Reliability - Keeping up with maintenance services will ensure that your vehicle will get you where you need to go.
  3. Lowers the Cost of Ownership - Pending car problems can be detected early and then taken care of.
  4. Reduce Roadside Emergencies - Avoid roadside breakdowns, towing expenses, and being stranded in a strange town with your vehicle inoperable.
